Lowveld Lumber was proudly founded in 1940 by John Edward Thorpe, affectionately known as Eddie.

Eddie built Lowveld Lumber on sound business practices and one simple philosophy:

“Always work hard, never compromise on quality or service, and most importantly, always keep one step ahead of your rivals.”

Eddie’s proud legacy continued when his son took over the business operations and running of Lowveld Lumber, who in turn has passed on the flame to Eddie’s grandchildren. Today, the Thorpe family is one of the oldest and most experienced in the South African Timber Industry.

In the early 1940’s, Eddie Thorpe opened a sawmill at the Railway Station in White River. In just a few short years, he opened a second Sawmill on the Queen’s River in the Nelshoogte Plantation in Barberton.

For over 30 years, Lowveld Lumber’s position within the timber industry has grown to new heights.

Lowveld Lumber & Pallet (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1991, with Eddie’s philosophy always at the forefront. We have become a major supplier of timber, pallets and wooden boxes and fruit bins to a multitude of industries, most notably the fruit industry.

In 2005, Lowveld Lumber Warehouse was opened, incorporating a sub-division – Lowveld Doors.

The 6000m2 warehouse gave us the opportunity to expand and enhance our client offering, with the ability to supply timber and timber related products to the Wholesale Timber and Building Materials Industry.

We continuously strive to live up to Eddie’s philosophy and principles. Through our superb quality, competitive range, outstanding value and exceptional service to all our customers, Lowveld Lumber has gone from strength to strength, proving that we truly are the “Timber Experts of the Lowveld
